2012 GFL
In 2012 the German Football League expanded to 16 teams, and for the first time, each team played the same number of games (14). In the North Group, the Kiel Hurricanes would lead the way with an empressive 13-1-0 record, good enough to finish two games over the second
place Berlin Adler (11-3-0). In the South Group, the Schwabisch Unicorns (12-2-0) would finish two games over the second place Rhein-Neckar Bandits (10-4-0). The top four teams in each group would qualify for the playoffs. In the first round of the playoffs, it was the Kiel Hurricanes rolling over the Stuttgart Scorpions 70-22, the Dresden Monarchs would take care of the Rhein-Neckar Bandits 31-19, the Schwabisch Unicorns over the Dusseldorf Panther 41-25, and the Berlin Adler getting by the Marburg Mercenaries 35-21. In the Semi-Finals, it was the Kiel Hurricanes cruising past the Dresdan Monarchs 35-14, and the Schwabisch Unicorns rolling past the Berlin Adler 38-21, to set up the match-ups for German Bowl XXXIV. The 34th edition of German Bowl Championship took place on October 13, 2012 in Berlin's Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Sports Park. The Unicorns would go on to win the game in a shoot-out 56-53.
