1999 NFL
In 1999, the Cleveland Browns returned to the field for the first time since the 1995 season. Also, the Tennessee Oilers changed its name to Tennessee Titans, and the league retired the name "Oilers" – a first in league history. Division winners in the AFC were Indianapolis in the East, Jacksonville, in the Central, and Seattle in the West, with the Wild-Cards going to Buffalo, Miami, and Tennessee. In the NFC, it was Washington in the East, Tampa Bay in the Central, and St.Louis in the West, with the Wild-Cards going to Dallas, Minnesota, and Detroit. In the AFC Wild-Card Playoffs, the Titans-Bills game is remembered for the "Music City Miracle":  Kevin Dyson took a lateral from Frank Wycheck on a kickoff to score the game-winning touchdown with under 15 seconds left, giving the Titans a 22-16 win. In the other AFC game, the Dolphins would take control of the game after a slow start, behind a stifling Dolphin defense, and defeat the Seahawks 20-17. In the NFC, the Redskins would build a 27-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter, and go on to win 27-13 over the Lions. In the other NFC game, the Vikings would cruise to a 27-10 victory over the Cowboys. In the AFC Divisional Playoffs, the Jaguars shredded the Dolphins with 520 total offensive yards in what became Miami quarterback Dan Marino's last game in the NFL and the most lopsided postseason contest since the Chicago Bears defeated the Redskins 73–0 in the 1940 NFL Championship Game. Their defense forced seven turnovers and held the Dolphins to 131 total yards. In the other AFC game, the Titans would win a tight one against the Colts 19-16. In the NFC, the Buccaneers would overcome a 13-0 deficit to defeat the Redskins 14-13, while the Rams would win in a shootout against the Vikings 49-37. In the conference championship games, the Titans had no trouble with the Jaguars 33-14 in the AFC, while the Rams would win a defensive struggle with the Buccaneers 11-6, setting up the match-ups for Super Bowl XXXIV. The Rams defeated the Titans by the score of 23–16, capturing their first Super Bowl win and first NFL championship since 1951.  The game was played on January 30, 2000 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. The first two quarters of Super Bowl XXXIV were largely a defensive battle. Despite outgaining the Titans in total offensive yards in the first half, 294–89, the Rams held only a 9–0 halftime lead on three field goals. St. Louis later scored their first touchdown midway through the 3rd quarter to go up 16–0. Tennessee then responded by scoring 16 consecutive points to tie the game with 2:12 left in regulation. This was the largest deficit to be erased in a Super Bowl and the first deficit that was greater than 10 points. On the Rams' ensuing drive, quarterback Kurt Warner completed a 73-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Isaac Bruce to regain the lead. The Titans then drove to the St. Louis 10-yard line with six seconds remaining, but on the final play of the game, Rams linebacker Mike Jones tackled Tennessee wide receiver Kevin Dyson one yard short of the goal line to prevent a potential game-tying touchdown. This play went into NFL lore as "One Yard Short", or simply "The Tackle." Warner completed 24 out of 45 passes for 414 yards and 2 touchdowns and was named the Most Valuable Player.
