2007 CFL
2007 was another competitive season for the Canadian Football League, as six of the eight teams won 7 or more games. The BC Lions would lead the way with an impressive 14-3-1 record, which was good enough to win the Western division by 2.5 games over the second place Saskatchewan Roughriders (12-6-0). The Toronto Argonauts (11-7-0) would have a much tighter race in the Eastern Division, as they would win the division by only one-half game over the second place Winnipeg Blue Bombers (10-7-1). In the first round of the playoffs, it was Montreal over Winnipeg in a close one 24-22, while Saskatchewan would also win a close on over Calgary 26-24. In the Divisional Finals, it was Winnipeg upsetting Toronto 19-9, while Saskatchewan surprized the top-seeded BC Lions 26-17, setting
up the match-ups for the 95th Grey Cup Championship. The 95th Grey Cup was held in Toronto at the Rogers Centre on November 25, 2007. It was played between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, with the Roughriders winning 23-19. James Johnson set a Grey Cup record with his third interception of the game late in the fourth as the Roughriders won their first title since 1989. Their only other title came in 1966. Saskatchewan took a 23-14 lead early in the fourth quarter when Kerry Joseph connected with Andy Fantuz for a 29-yard TD. It was the Roughriders' first offensive touchdown of the game. After Saskatchewan's Jamie Boreham tied a Grey Cup record by conceding his third safety of the game, Winnipeg cut the deficit to 23-19 on Troy Westwood's 42-yard FG with 3:47
remaining. On the Blue Bombers' final drive, Johnson stepped in front of a pass by Winnipeg's Ryan Dinwiddie a final time with just over one minute left to seal the result. Johnson was selected as the Player of the Game. Dinwiddie was making his first career playoff start after CFL regular-season passing leader Kevin Glenn broke his arm in the Bombers' victory over Toronto in the East Conference final. Dinwiddie completed 15-of-33 passes for 225 yards and one touchdown. Joseph finished 13-for-34 for 181 yards and one interception as Saskatchewan won the league title under first-year coach Kent Austin.
