1933 CFL
In 1933, Canadian Football consisted of 6 separate leagues, which only competed within its own league during the regular season. Each league would have teams that would qualify for the post-season, and the right to compete for the 21st Grey Cup Championship. This included the IRFU (Interprovincial Rugby Football Union), the ORFU (Ontario Rugby Football Union), the CIRFU (Intercollegiate Rugby Football Union), the MRFU (Manitoba Rugby Football Union), the SRFU (Saskatchewan Rugby Football Union), and the ARFU (Alberta Rugby Football Union). On the field, it was a very competitive year as most of the top teams were either 5-1 or 4-2. In the first round ofthe playoffs, it was Toronto University over Queen's University 10-3, the Toronto Argonauts would sweep a two-game set against the Montreal Winged Wheelers 5-3 and 15-5, and Winnipeg St. John's would take care of the Calgary Altomahs 15-1. In the East Semi-Finals, it was the Sarnia Imperials winning by forfeit over Toronto University, as the students of Toronto University wanted to concentrate on their studies. In the West Semi-Finals, it was the Toronto Argonauts rolling over Winnipeg St. John's 13-0, setting up the match-up for the 21st GreyCup Championship. The 21st Grey Cup game was the Canadian football championship in 1933. In a defensive battle, the Toronto Argonauts defeated Sarnia Imperials 4–3 at Sarnia's Davis Field on December 9 before a crowd of 2,751.
