In 2019 the German Football League was very top-heavy, as both division winners went a perfect 14-0 to win their divisions. The top four teams in each division qualify for the post-season. In the North, it was the New Yorker Lions, the Dresden Monarchs, the Hildesheim Invaders, and the Berlin Rebels. In the South, it was the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns, the Frankfurt Universe, the Marburg Mercenaries, and the Stuttgart Scorpions. During the regular season, each team would only play the other teams in their division, and would not play any of the teams in the other division until the playoffs. In the first round of the Playoffs, it was the Lions crushing the Scorpions 70-3, the Universe over the Invaders 28-7, the Unicorns over the Rebels 45-24, and the Monarchs over the Mercenaries 39-22. In the Semi-Finals it was the Lions over the Universe 36-18 and the Unicorns over the Monarchs 30-13, setting up the match-up for German Bowl XLI. German Bowl XLI took place on October 12, 2019 in the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt. The relocation of the German Bowl from the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark in Berlin was necessary because of the extensive renovation work being carried out there. The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns were the defending champions, who were also able to reach the 2019 final. There they lost to Braunschweig, the New Yorker Lions. They were able to win their 12th championship title and celebrate a perfect season. In a low scoring affair, Braunschweig snapped a fifty-game winning streak of Schwäbisch Hall that had started in 2017 and won by a final score of 10–7 in German Bowl XLI.
