The Atlantic Coast Football League (ACFL) was a professional American football minor league that operated from 1962 to 1973. Until 1969, many of its franchises had working agreements with NFL and AFL teams to serve as farm clubs. The league paid a base salary of $100 per game and had 36 players on each active roster. On the field, the Boston Sweepers would take the Northern Division with an impressive 11-3 record, while the Newark Bears would do the same in the Southern Division with an even more impressive 12-1-1 record to set up the 1964 ACFL Championship game. The game would be played on December 5, 1964 at Schools Stadium in Newark, New Jersey. The Sweepers would go on and win the game 14-10 to claim the 1964 ACFL Championship.
