The Atlantic Coast Football League (ACFL) was a professional American football minor league that operated from 1962 to 1973. Until 1969, many of its franchises had working agreements with NFL and AFL teams to serve as farm clubs. The league paid a base salary of $100 per game and had 36 players on each active roster. On the field, it was the Jersey Jets finishing with an impressive 12-2 record, easily taking the Southern Division over the second place Harrisburg Capitols (3-5). Meanwhile, the New Bedford Sweepers would also easily take the Northern Division with a 10-2 record over the second place Boston Steamrollers (8-5), setting up the match-up for the 1965 ACFL Championship Game. The championship game between the Jersey Jets and the New Bedford Sweepers would be played on November 28, 1965 at Sargent Field in New Bedford, Massachusetts before a crowd of 6,821 fans. The Sweepers would go on to upset the Jets 13-6 to claim the 1965 ACFL Championship.
